Two O&H Authors Featured in New Journal: Kairos Quarterly
Two of our regular Orthodoxy and Heterodoxy authors, editor-in-chief Fr. Andrew Stephen Damick and Vincent Martini, have had articles published (“The Transfiguration of Place: An Orthodox Christian Vision of Localism (Part I)” and “Why We Fast Before Nativity (Christmas),” respectively) in the first issue of the new Kairos Quarterly: A Journal of Orthodox Living, a publication of the Hermitage of the Holy Cross, the largest English-speaking Orthodox monastery in North America. The new publication caught the attention of First Things yesterday for its article on “Old Christmas” in Appalachia.
Kairos Quarterly describes itself in its introduction:
Herein we wish to offer our own humble observations about place, faith, community, culture and ‘Orthodoxy of the Heart’ as it is lived on our little mountain in West Virginia. We wish to share our own experiences, as well as bits of wisdom and inspiration that we have found helpful and spiritually profitable over the years, and we hope that you might find some benefit from these little treasures as well. Being a Russian Orthodox monastery of mostly American converts in the hills and culture of Appalachia sometimes makes for an interesting mix. Thus, we hope, in some small way, to provide a perspective that is unique.
